Minneapolis Airport
I recently had to make a trip to my home country of the United States. My home is in north east Iowa, so I needed to fly into the nearest major airport which is the Minneapolis/Saint Paul Airport in the state of Minnesota.
The city of Minneapolis may not be as well known as cities like New York, Los Angeles or even Chicago, but it has a very large airport and services flights to many locations throughout the world. I had a direct flight from Tokyo's Haneda Airport to Minneapolis which took about eleven hours. In addition to the many gates for arrivals and departures, the Minneapolis airport has a large main concourse filled with a food court and shops of all kinds. In addition to the usual souvenir shops, a bookstore, electronics store, jewelry store, toy store and even a candy store. Such a large airport can be confusing so the locations are clearly marked with signs and useful maps are available.
When you first arrive at an airport outside Japan you will usually have to go directly to immigrations. Most of the questions you will asked are easy to answer. but you should be prepared to answer questions about the place you live and your traveling situation. For example, you may be asked "Where do you live?" or "What is your country of residence?" To answer this question you should say where your home is ... "I live in Chigasaki(Fujisawa), Japan."
Also you'll be asked "Are you traveling with anyone?" or "Are you traveling alone?" For this question you could answer "I'm traveling by myself." or "I'm traveling with my family/friend/classmates."
When going through immigration, remember to stay calm and relaxed. If you don't understand a question just ask "Could you say that again, please?" You shouldn't have any problems and you'll be on your way.
